Mountain Association for Community Economic Development (MACED)
The Mountain Association for Community Economic Development (MACED) works with people in eastern Kentucky and Central Appalachia to create economic opportunity, strengthen democracy, and support the sustainable use of natural resources.
Vision
MACED is a 43-year-old nonprofit that works with businesses and communities in eastern Kentucky to advance a just transition to a new economy in Central Appalachia.
Overview of Organization
MACED offers loans and business guidance to existing and startup enterprises, particularly those that may not qualify for traditional financing. The energy programs help homeowners, businesses, nonprofits, schools and local governments use less energy and save money through utility bill analysis, on-site walk-through energy audits, consulting and financing. MACED has always needed to be flexible and evolve as the local, national and global economy has shifted, and we continue to do so today. We are always exploring new strategic initiatives in which to invest, including worker-owned cooperative businesses, healthcare, creative placemaking and comprehensive community capacity building and development.
